The material listed here is based on the comments and presentations of participants in live workshops on CAD GIS Integration held in various cities in Australia in 2008 .

The next "Automated CAD GIS Integration for Better Asset Management" workshop will be at GeoTec event 2009 in Vancouver June 1, 2009.

This blog is a forum for discussing and resolving data integration issues between CAD and GIS systems. It might be about moving data from one system to the other. It might be about syncing changes in the representation of assets in one system to the other. It might be about using the GIS as an index to CAD drawings. The list is not exhaustive. However, the issues crop up not only because of system and file differences but also because of staff expertise issues. GIS staff tend to be trained in analysis. CAD staff tend to be trained in design. In many Engineering Consultancies with both types of staff, there is not much interaction. So “people issues” might be the area you need help on.
